Hablan sentados en parques por la tarde; en su casa -frente al escritorio en el que pasó largas horas solitarias trabajando en sus novelas-; pero hablan sobre todo en bares. Los bares de Lisboa, ciudad que ama y que atraviesa sus libros. Cardoso Pires recorre su vida y su obra en estas conversaciones, y en ese ejercicio introspectivo, como un hombre que se mira al espejo mientras fuma, conjura al mismo tiempo su pasado, presente y futuro.
