Explota en el centro de Cali un convoy militar cargado de dinamita¸ destrozando buena parte de las edificaciones tradicionales de la ciudad y dejando al descubierto las raíces de unas casas que por años habían guardado las historias secretas de sus habitantes: familias notables¸ propietarias de Haciendas e Ingenios azucareros circundantes. Una de estas familias recibe la visita de una muchacha¸ quien ha vivido por años en Estados Unidos¸ y es medio hermana de nuestro joven protagonista. Se conocen¸ escarban en el pasado de la familia¸ se atraen uno al otro¸ y se sumergen en un delirio en el que aparecen los antepasados como personajes míticos que protagonizaron también historias de incesto y violencia.
