El duelo por la muerte del abuelo reúne a una familia caleña en una casona cerca al Lago Calima en las afueras de la ciudad. Los jóvenes de la generación del protagonista adolescente, Pedro, lo someten a toda una serie de pruebas de masculinidad que lo desbaratan. La decadencia de la casa, y de toda la familia, da un toque gótico y de terror a la película, que nos hace empatizar con su miedo y su tímida rebeldía ante todo lo que significa su familia. Y su encuentro con Margarita, una joven de origen indígena, revela cómo todo lo que sucede está marcado por la herencia colonial, que sigue determinando
un sistema signado por la injusticia y la crueldad.
